My Story With Sound

From my earliest memories of my mother singing tunes from Hans Christian Andersen at bedtime; to my father shocking the household awake at 5 am on travel days with Earth, Wind & Fire; to the whole family singing 17th century rounds and harmonizing Everly Brothers tunes making post-dinner dishwashing at the old cabin feel like a party; to singing familiar and timeless hymns at church—I have been gathered into the community of music in many ways.

Music has soothed and stirred my soul, stretched my mind and given me chills and rosy cheeks. Music, with all its facets, has been the most steadfast of friends through life’s ups and downs.

Over the past ten years, I have grown into a performer who gets to lead others in the thrill of that communal exchange. I never would have gotten to this point without my family and dear friends (I hope you all know who you are) who took on the roles of cheerleader, mentor, shepherd and loving fan. 

Now, in addition to singing in a choir as part of an ensemble (one of my first loves), you will find me on a stage with a microphone in my hand singing Lerner and Loewe, Joni Mitchell, Bill Withers or an original tune. It just depends on the day. It is always my hope that whatever song I’m singing is traveling straight from my heart to yours because that is what keeps the magic of this community going.
